HelenPaulette* Donvan
About the Artist:
Born in New York City ~ 3rd generation, 2nd of 5 children. Family moved to the “country,” ~ Long Island, at age 7. Back to the City for her Nursing education, and then off to California for the 70’s, and a world different and exciting and challenging. Change has been a big influence in her life. HelenP* had 2 amazing sons and a grandson. In 1980 Montana became home!
In 2002, HelenP* was gifted with a journey to Bali and… Surprise! Her prayers were answered! Batik! At last the perfect venue for her to tell stories, explore thoughts and feelings, store memories. Fabric allows for the engagement of not only the visual but the tactile sensation. Her work is designed to be displayed as fine art hung on a wall but also ready to be worn. Wrapped around in intimately, sensually and delightfully...totally practical.
She paints mainly on silk fabrics. “Breezes” (scarves), T.V. Breezers (which protect and enhance any blank T.V. Screen) and several other multitasking artworks. She uses many varieties of silk. The silk dyes are non toxic but require a setting process that takes several hours. Well worth the effort since they become part of the silk and therefore are washable and light resistant. HelenP* uses the “TriHue” technique ~trademark of Richard L. Nelson, of Maui, Hawaii. This means she exclusively uses the 3 primary colors~ Magenta, Cyan, and Yellow (printers use the same). With this very concise palate she is able to mix limitless colors assured that they will always harmonize with each other. When it comes to teaching others, whether accomplished artists or beginners, including children, this simple palate is very user friendly, allowing ease in understanding and ability to mix perfect beautiful colors.
In the last 2 years she has taken her creativity out of doors. “Plein Air”, Totally enjoying time camping, eating and sleeping under our magnificent skies, in the mountains and forests and along lakes and flowing rivers. She believes the ambient wind, and sounds and temperatures imbue authenticity and soul into each painting. Community and environment are her focus. In a time when peace and truth and Love are challenged, working with what is real is essential for her. Always Holding and Intention for the Highest Good for All thru-out the process.
One of HelenP*’s greatest joys is offering workshops. She loves to encourage others to design their own unique creation, either one to one with her guidance, or as a group - family or friends, sharing special occasions that will always be treasured.
