Artist Statement:
I was born and raised in North Dakota, lived ten years in Omaha, Nebraska and the last twenty five years in Montana. I recently moved from Helena to Belgrade to be closer to granddaughter and family. Took a pottery class mid-winter in Helena about ten years ago and have had clay under my fingernails ever since. Discovered the Helena Clay Arts Guild about eight years ago and still a member. Learned to make glazes and fire/maintain kilns while there. Recently finished my own brick, natural gas-fired kiln in Belgrade where I now live. I have sold my pottery at the Helena Farmer’s Market and a handful of local businesses in Helena for several years and now seeking out a few places in the Belgrade/Bozeman areas. Mostly enjoy throwing functional pottery coated with earth tone and classic Oriental glazes. When throwing, I think about how comfortable and easy-to- use the piece may be. I hope that my pottery will be used often and therefore try make them as save and strong as possible as well so they will be around for a lifetime with a little care.
